EndNote Update X5.0.1 for Windows

The update is available to EndNote X5 for Windows users and includes a number of improvements. Note: You must have a licensed copy of EndNote X5.0 for Windows installed to run the X5.0.1 update.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Windows

It is recommended that you use Program Updates. Close all programs and turn off any background software, such as virus protection software. From within EndNote, choose "EndNote Program Updates" from the "Help" menu and follow the on-screen prompts.

Alternatively you can download a patch (please note that this is a .zip file that contains the .msp patch installer). To run this installer open the ZIP file and then double-click the MSP file to update your version of EndNote.

EndNote Update X4.0.2 for Mac OS X

The update is available to EndNote X4 for users and includes a number of improvements.
Note: You must have a licensed copy of EndNote X4.0 or EndNote X4.0.1 installed to run the X4.0.2 update.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Mac OS X

• Using Safari, download the Mac OS X Update.
• You will find the update in the Download folder.
• Open the "EndNoteX4.0.2 Update Installer" folder.
• Double-click on the "EndNote X4.0.2 Installer" file and follow the prompts.

If you receive a message that EndNote X4 cannot be found to update, do one of the following (requires your product key):

• Uninstall X4, reinstall X4 and apply the X4.0.2 update, or
• Uninstall X4 and install X4.0.2 (download file).

PubMed users should also update their PubMed Connection File.

1. Download the connection file from the link above and save it somewhere easy to find, such as your Desktop.
2. Double-click on the downloaded file to open it in the EndNote software.
3. Click the File menu in EndNote and select Save As.
4. IMPORTANT: Make sure that the name shows here as PubMed (NLM). You may need to remove the word “Copy” to get it to show exactly correctly. Then, click Save.
5. The correct connection file is now installed in EndNote. You can delete the copy that you downloaded.

General Improvements:

• The Word autogroup no longer changes the current library selection when using Cite While You Write.
• PDF imports now search PubMed to complete citation data with additional fields not found in CrossRef.
• Find Full Text now supports Serials Solutions links.
• References edits within the Online Search mode are retained when copied to a local library.

Windows Improvements:

• Microsoft Word 2010 64-bit compatibility.
• Inserting a citation into a footnote no longer produces an error in Word 2010.
• PDF files imported from a network now open correctly.
• Maximum record limit error extended beyond 330,000 records.
• Eliminated corrupt data issue when connecting to Ovid Medline.
• Windows registry is now properly updated when adding a Spell check dictionary.
• Improvements to importing references into a copy of an EndNote library.
• Passwords in connection files are now hidden with asterisks.
• Groups – minor search result and UI improvements.
• Quick Edit –minor UI improvements.
• Find Full Text – updated support for Wiley Interscience and other minor improvements.
• Cite While You Write for Microsoft Word:
  • Fixed several footnote-related formatting issues
  • 'Return to Word Processor' command now works with Word 2010
  • Focus now jumps to the correct citation in the edit/manage dialog
  • Hyperlinks are no longer visible after having been removed
  • References are no longer unformatted when ‘author’ is excluded from in-text citations.

Mac OS X Improvements:

• Microsoft Word Word 2011 compatibility.
• PDF Indexing – several improvements to indexing and minor UI changes.
• Word 2008 on Leopard 10.6 no longer crashes after printing.
