  New EndNote X1 Patch

  There’s a new EndNote X1 patch: EndNote X1.0.2 (Windows) and X1.0.3 (Mac) is free to EndNote X1 users and includes new features:

  • Solves the year 2010 import issue
  • Formatting support for Open Document Type (ODT) files using the Format Paper command
  • Expanded groups—create hundreds of groups in each EndNote library
  • Corrected an issue where Groups would not show references, even though they were present
  • The reference preview now displays active URLs for quick access
  • Updated documentation, Output Styles, Connections and Import filters
  • PLUS approximately 50 additional updates, fixes, and improvements

  EndNote Web 2.9 Update

  The 2.9 update for EndNote Web went live on February the 21st.

  This update includes the following new features and bug fixes:

  New features:
  

  • Cite While You Write™ with references found in shared EndNote Web groups.
  • Save time transferring up to 5,000 references to and from EndNote desktop.
  • Take advantage of the new Japanese interface for native-language users.
  • Additional performance enhancements increase speed.

  Bug fixes:
  

  • Addressed the "Unable to Format" bug.

  Researchsoftware Gets Thuiswinkel Waarborg Certificate

  Since June 2007 DISC bv, the company behind Researchsoftware, has been member of the “Thuiswinkel.org”, a Dutch trade association for companies that offer products and services to consumers via internet, catalogue and mail. The Thuiswinkel.org doesn’t only represent the interests of her members, but also the interests of the consumers who buy from her members. For example, the association has an arbitration board where consumers can go to with their complaints.

  Certification
  Since the 1st of April 2009, all Thuiswinkel.org members are obliged to get certified every year. The certification is executed by the foundation: “Stichting Certificering Thuiswinkel Waarborg” that has been founded for that purpose by Thuiswinkel.org. Every year all members have to submit a detailed questionnaire, this questionnaire contain questions about legislation and questions about the “Gedragscode Thuiswinkel Waarborg”, the Thuiswinkel code of conduct. The submitted questionnaire and the applicant’s website(s) are thoroughly inspected by a legal consultancy firm, and a positive or negative verdict is passed on to the Stichting Certificering Thuiswinkel Waarborg.

  Thuiswinkel Guarantee and Certificate
  Based on the positive evaluation by the Stichting Certificering Thuiswinkel Waarborg, the Thuiswinkel.org grants the Thuiswinkel Waarborg, together with the Thuiswinkel Waarborg Certificaat. This guarantee and certificate provides you, the consumer, with the following certainties:

  1. You know who you are dealing with.
  2. The applicable terms and conditions have been agreed on by De Consumentenbond, the Dutch consumer organization.
  3. Your personal data will be processed in a secure web environment, according to the “Wet Bescherming Persoonsgegevens”, the Dutch Personal Data Protection Act.
  4. You have extra time for consideration (please note, this does not apply to downloads and software).
  5. Your payments are processed in a secure web environment.
  6. There’s an independent arbitration board.

  EndNote and Reference Manager Installation Service

  With the purchase of EndNote and Reference Manager software, Researchsoftware offers the possibility to have our skilled specialists install the software on-site.   The price of an installation is € 600,00 (VAT and travel expenses excluded) irrespective of the software and the license that you purchased.   Reference Manager and/or EndNote

  We are often contacted by customers who don’t know which bibliographical software to choose: Reference Manager or EndNote. Even though both Reference Manager and EndNote are developed by Thomson Reuters and look much alike, they also have some notable differences:

  • Reference Manager databases are “multi-read, multi-write”. This means that several people can access and edit the same database at the same time. EndNote databases are only “multi-read”; several people can access the database at the same time, but only one person can edit it.
  • Another functionality of Reference Manager is the Webpublisher; with the Webpublisher it is possible to publish databases on the internet or intranet. Subsequently others can export, add or edit references through their browser.
  • The big advantage of EndNote is, that it is also available for Mac (Reference Manager is only available for Windows). EndNote databases can be opened both on Windows and Mac, they can even be shared on a “mixed-platform” (Windows and Mac).
  • The fact that EndNote is “unicode compliant”, makes it also very popular, it means that non-Western symbols and characters are also supported. This is very useful when a lot of non-Western references need to be collected.
  • Last but not least, when purchasing an EndNote license, you get to use EndNote Web for free. Although EndNote Web does not have the same functionalities as the desktop version, it is definitely a useful addition.

  EndNote Plug-in for versions X1 Through 8 for Windows and Mac OS X

  In January we notified you about a 2010 publication year import issue affecting older versions of EndNote; when importing records from 2010, the record could have a blank in the Year field. An EndNote X2 update was already available, now we are pleased to offer you a corrective plug-in for EndNote versions X1 through 8.

  The plug-in modifies the work flow of importing records to use the "Custom 7" field as a temporary placeholder for "Year" information, then it automatically moves the data into the "Year" field, if the year field is empty on creation of a record. This workaround requires special connection files and filters (which are included in the plug-in) where the Year information is imported into Custom 7 field rather than the Year field.

  DISC bv and SURFdiensten renew Agreement for Thomson Reuters Products

  DISC bv and SURFdiensten have signed a new licence agreement, for the period 01-01-2010 – 31-12-2012, for Thomson Reuters products. This agreement includes the bibliographic software EndNote and Reference Manager, both for desktop and server. An EndNote SURFlicense includes free access to EndNote Web.

  This agreement is the successor of the agreement DISC 2006-2009. Just like with the previous agreement, use within the institution and at home is allowed. The software may be used by employees and students.

  The new license agreement is especially profitable for two groups:

  1. The Large Technological Institutions (TNO excluded) will get the possibility to purchase a SURFlicense as a group at a very low price.

  2. Also the KNAW institutions have the option to get a large discount when they purchase a SURFlicense as a group.

  If your institution does not have a SURFlicense for EndNote and Reference Manager, but you do have access to SURFspot, shortly you will be able to buy an EndNote - and Reference Manager single user license at SURFspot at a very a nice price.

  New SURFdiensten Agreement Design Science Products

  As well as the above mentioned license agreement for the Thomson Reuters products, DISC bv and SURFdiensten have also signed a three year contract for the Design Science products MathType and MathDaisy. For a year DISC bv/Researchsoftware has been the distributor of these Design Science products in the Benelux and Turkey. As of today MathType and MathDaisy will also be available at SURFdiensten and SLBdiensten.

  With a MathType and MathDaisy SURFlicense, employees and students are allowed to use the software at home and at the institution. In the near future single user licenses of MathType and MathDaisy will also be offered at SURFspot.

  EndNote 2010 Publication Year Import Issue

  Thomson Reuters has discovered an import issue that affects EndNote 8 through X2. When importing references into the versions of EndNote mentioned above, a year greater than 2009 is dropped. All other data for the reference imports correctly.

  The EndNote Web 2.8 import functions have the same issue, however the online search within EndNote Web imports the publication date correctly.

  Thomson Reuters acknowledges this importing issue as an important one to their valued customers, and sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused.

  EndNote Web 2.8 (fall 2009 release of EndNote Web CWYW Windows only)

  Recently EndNote Web has been updated to version 2.8.
  EndNote Web is the EndNote web application that was released by Thomson Reuters in 2006.
  EndNote Web is freely available with the EndNote single user license and the EndNote site license.

  What’s new in EndNote Web 2.8?

  • Add and import formatted text such as italics, superscripts and more
  • Enter and edit references with a simplified interface
  • Format papers using the new APA 6th bibliographic style
